Exploring the possibility of future indoor sports fields, German company ASB Systembau GMBH has come up with a smart floor dubbed the “ASB Glassfloor” that can track the movement of athletes to improve their performance. Installed in a school gym in Germany, the Tron-like flooring makes use of programmable LED lighting to produce lines or become a screen to display video & text ads underneath the glass surface. The LED floor will ensure pinpointed accuracy to ensure the fair play on the field.

Featuring an aluminum frame to hold the glass and avoid breakage, the smart flooring is covered with tiny ceramic dots to maintain the friction of a conventional wooden floor, while facade is etched to avert stray reflection to let athletes concentrate on their game. Considering the fact that tempered glass more durable than wood, the radical floor will eliminate the repair cost, unless the LED technology doesn’t play any tricks with the grounds men or players. In short, the ASB Glassfloor digitalizes the indoor sports fields and makes the spectators as well as players dance on the floor as if they are in nightclub.
