Contact lenses to display text messages right into the eye

We have already seen some of the most hi-tech goggles, such as Google Goggle, that project your mailbox right in front of your eyes, but taking the augmented reality technology to the next level, researchers at the Centre of Microsystems Technology in Gent University have created contact lenses that makes use of wireless technology to display text messages.

Transforming a curved LCD display into contact lenses to project images over a wireless connection, researchers are trying to show images like road directions or projecting text messages from Smartphones right into the eye of the user. Based on the theory of one pixel, fully covered contact lenses that become a pair of adaptable sunglasses, the new contact lances could also be used to treat low eyesight by controlling the light transmission to the retina.
